Obama's VP speech

A centerpiece of my campaign has been changing the old way of doing politics in Washington, and creating new ways that divest more power to the people.  And I have decided to put that approach into practice in selection of our party's Vice Presidential candidate.

We have had one of the most extraordinary nominating contests in the country.  Some 36 million people have turned out for Democratic primaries and caucuses, more than ever before in our country's history.  And they have chosen delegates from cities, towns, and rural areas across this land.

I believe that our country, and our party, work best when the people have a chance to exercise their power.

Thus, rather than imposing my own choice on our party, I am asking the 4,233 delegates to our national convention to select the nominee.  While this does no represent a direct choice by the voting population, it is the closest alternative to that, as the representatives that they themselves have selected will make the choice.

Their are many fine Democratic leaders that will make a superb Vice President.  I look forward to our convention selecting the one they find best and to that person joining the ticket and running with me for the highest offices of our land.

Nrafter has been pushing the idea (2.00 / 0)

brought to him by an "insider" that Obama will conceded to HRC during his Invesco Field speech and then run with her as a ticket.  That markjay was potentially echoing Nrafter's theory was my initial reaction to the title of this diary.  This theory will probably not even make the top ten list for wackiest theories between now and the end of the convention.

Perfect 10's across the board for a backward one and a half sidesplit with 3/4 twist in the full pike position.

No SPLASH!

"This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions......

What do you mean, "biblical"?

What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff, fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave!

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! "

I think these folks have watched Ghostbusters too many times...

Re: Nrafter has been pushing the idea (none / 0)

Nope, I wasn't echoing that theory.

And I don't think it likely that Obama will give the speech above.  However, doing so would allow him to get the advantages of having Hillary Clinton on the ticket without some of the disadvantages (i.e., looking like he was forced to do so, going against the "change" meme).

Re: Nrafter has been pushing the idea (none / 0)

Oh please...

It would make him look weak and undecisive...

If that's your rationale, that makes this diary even wackier.

Re: Nrafter has been pushing the idea (none / 0)

I think it's an imperfect option, but there are no perfect options at this point.  At a time when Obama has been steadily sinking in the polls vis-a-vis McCain (i.e., going from a modest-sized lead to approaching a dead heat) and thus running considerably behind where Kerry was at this date, he needs a good jolt from his VP pick.

And I don't see the other people whose names have been floated -- Kaine, Bayh, Biden, Sebelius -- as providing that.  Unless he's able to convince Warner or Strickland to reconsider (and thus likely pulling their state along with them), I think me may well need Clinton in order to win.  And this provides another option of a way for him to get Clinton if he prefers not to select her directly. It would definitely create a buzz and focus more attention on the convention, leading to a huge amount of excitement.
